Yours Stylist… Behind The Scenes With Hannah

Hi ladies,

You may remember back in September last year that the The Sun newspaper announced a nationwide Sun Lurves Curves competition giving girls a chance to become Britain’s next top plus-size model and win a yearlong modelling contract with Milk Management. Prizes for the winner and runners-up also included a photo shoot with Yours Clothing! In January we did a photo shoot with competition winner Christie-Leigh (who is now one of our regular models) and the third runner-up Beatrice. At the time second runner-up Hannah was unable to attend as she is only 16 years old and was busy with her studies at school.

However, as this week was half-term, Hannah was finally able to come to our studio on Tuesday to shoot with us! Living just outside of Liverpool, Hannah and her mum Kim had an early start, leaving at 5:45am to drive down to our offices in Peterborough. When they arrived at around 10:30am it was straight into hair and make-up for Hannah and Head Photographer Laura gave a brief overview of the plan for the day. Hannah and mum Kim were lovely, really friendly and chatty with Hannah explaining that this was her very first photo shoot.

Hannah-Khaki

For the first part of the day I pulled together some khaki-coloured pieces as well as a super cute grey swing tunic for some more casual looks. Khaki is such a hot trend right now and is so easy to integrate into your existing wardrobe, so it was great to showcase this colour trend on a fresh-faced model like Hannah. For the first few shots Hannah was a little timid but she soon warmed up and was such a fast learner, listening well to the photographer and picking up helpful little modelling tips. By the end of the first part of the day she was acting like a pro!

We had a little break for lunch and all gathered upstairs in our seating area for sandwiches, crisps and chocolate! It was nice to have an opportunity to learn a bit more about Hannah. She is currently in the first year of her A-Levels and would like to study at university to become a primary school teacher. Her mum Kim laughed as she told us how laid-back Hannah is and it was clear that they both had a very close relationship; it was nice to see how supportive Kim was of her daughter.

After lunch is was back into hair and make-up for Hannah for a quick lick of eye-liner and a glossier lip, a more dressy look to match all of the fun prom dresses that I had pulled together to shoot that afternoon. There were two different styles of dresses to shoot in various colours; first up were our flirty lace skater dresses that are perfect for any party occasion and Hannah’s young fresh look gave them a fun twist. The second set of dresses were our statement strapless maxis with beautiful embellishment to the bustier. Hannah told us that she had worn a very similar style to her school prom last year and so she was very at ease in these dresses.

By the end of the day we had some great imagery, it was such a successful shoot that we decided to use some of the shots straight away on our web products as seen in this blog.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Hannah, it was such a pleasure working with someone new to the business who had such great poise for her age. I wish her the best of luck for the future.
