While we’re struggling to believe that the first Mamma Mia was filmed a whole decade ago, we could not be more excited to celebrate its 10 year anniversary with a brand new film! Read on for the low-down on the plot, the cast, the playlist and the location!
What’s the story?
Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again is both is a prequal and a sequal to the first film. Taking us back to 1979, it tells the story of how young Donna met the three Dads (Bill, Sam and Harry), while also showing us what happened after the first film finished.
Who’s in it?
The all-star cast returns: Amanda Seyfried (Sophie), Dominic Cooper (Sky), Stellan Skarsgard (Bill), Pierce Brosnan (Sam), Colin Firth (Harry), Christine Baranski (Tanya) and Julie Walters (Rosie) joined by new faces Andy Garcia (Fernando) and Cher (Ruby Sheridan, Grandmother).
As to Meryl Streep, her role is currently under scrutiny. Although she seems to appear in a few frames of the trailer, it looks as though she’s largely absent in the film. Fans have speculated that her character, Donna, may have passed away.
Where was it filmed?
Leaving the shores of Greece behind, Mamma Mia 2 was filmed on the Croatian island of Vis, off the Dalmation coast.
